La Tour Eiffel : The tower was conceived by engineer Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 World Fair which was held on the Champs de Mars. Three hundred acrobatic construction workers assembled the 15000 metal pieces and 2,5 million rivets. It weighs less than 7000 tons (15,5 thousand pounds) and is more than 330 yards high.

For its 230 millions visitors (until December 31st 2006), it symbolizes Paris, to such an extend that it seems difficult to imagine one without thinking of the other.

Every night, its sparling lights illuminate Paris.
